Iris Barry, who is mentioned in conversation in Godard's "In Praise of Love", was instrumental in the formation of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) in November 1938, in collaboration with film archives in England, France, and Germany. According to Bruce Henson of University of North Carolina, 'FIAF's purpose was defined as "preserving the important films of the world...[and its formation] is a significant recognition of the importance of film as a record of contemporary times".'
